What Is Murata SimSurfing?

SimSurfing (simsurfing.com) is Murata's free online component simulation and S-parameter download service. It provides measured S-parameter files (.s2p) for thousands of Murata RF components including chip inductors (LQP, LQM series), capacitors (GRM, GJM series), filters, and antenna modules. These files are used directly in RF View's Real Match feature.

Step-by-Step: Download LQP15 10nH Inductor S-Parameters

  1. Go to simsurfing.com (or search "Murata SimSurfing")
  2. Select "Inductor" from product category
  3. Filter: L = 10 nH, package = 0402 (1005M), series = LQP15
  4. Select part number: e.g., LQP15MN10NG8ZD
  5. Click "S-parameter" tab → select frequency range (e.g., 100 MHz to 6 GHz)
  6. Click "Download" → select .s2p format → download file

Using Downloaded .s2p in RF View

  Option A: Real Match (automatic)

Validating the S-Parameter File

After downloading, verify the .s2p makes sense:

  1. Load in RF View → Smith chart → S11 view
  2. 10 nH inductor at 1 GHz should appear in upper half of Smith chart (inductive)
  3. The SRF should be visible: trace crosses real axis at top of chart
  4. Above SRF: trace moves to lower half (capacitive behavior) — confirm SRF matches datasheet
